PARA Members Experimenting with D-STAR (added 3-March-2010)
PARA members Paul W3PRL and John N3SPW recently purchased D-STAR capable amateur radios and have started experimenting with the digital voice operating mode. Very shortly experiments with the low-speed digital data mode will be conducted as well. For more details click the link above.

Battery Power for the .64 Repeater (added 5-February-2010)
Following the efforts of Dave AA3EJ and Filip AB3HK, a battery back up power system has been installed on the .64 repeater. Also installed today was an Astron 35M power supply which was provided by Dave AA3EJ. Having a battery back up power system on the .64 repeater will be a real asset to PARA and hams in the local area. During an electrical outage we can now maintain our ability to communicate without missing a beat. For more details click the link above.

2009 Christmas Banquet Pictures (added 18-December-2009)

PARA Publishes First Newsletter since 1998 (added 2-December-2009)
After eleven years, PARA has published its first newsletter since 1998. The December issue was sent out on December 1st and plans are to continue on a monthly basis. The new newsletter is being distributed electronically by e-mail. An archive of newsletters has been established here.

2009 Ham of the Year Award Nominations (added 25-Nov-2009)
Is there a local ham radio operator that you believe deserves special recognition for their ham radio related activities? Nominations are currently being accepted for the PARA Ham of the Year award. 2009 Christmas Banquet (added 2-Nov-2009)
The Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association will hold its Christmas Banquet at the Moshannon Valley Superbowl on Friday December 18, 2009. The evening will start off with a social hour at 6:00 PM and dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. All amateur radio operators and their families and/or guests are welcome to attend. October PARA Meeting at Clearfield 911 Center (added 2-August-2009)
The October PARA meeting will be held at the Clearfield County 911 Center in Clearfield PA. This will be an excellent opportunity for PARA members to see first hand the fully equipped amateur radio room which the county maintains within the 911 center. For more details click the link above.

W3P Special Event Station (added 12-July-2009)
PARA operated Special Event Station W3P from the Philipsburg Heritage Days street fair from Wednesday July 8 through Friday July 10, 2009. The station was set up in a 10 x 10 vendor style tent on Front Street in downtown Philipsburg Pennsylvania and included a CW station, a SSB station, and a 2 meter band station for local communications. PARA Members Assist at Black Moshannon Race (added 23-May-2009)
On Saturday May 23, 2009 members of the Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association provided communications assistance at the 29th Annual Black Moshannon Park - YMCA 10K and 5K race. For more details click the link above.

146.430 Repeater Amplifier Installed (added 15-May-2009)
On May 15th PARA members Dave AA3EJ and Filip AB3HK finished the installation of a Henry power amplifier on the 146.430 repeater. The amplifier appears to be working as planned and will serve to improve the signal strength in poor coverage areas. For more details click the link above.

Chester Hill Boro Approves PARA Request (added 12--May-2009)
On May 12th the Chester Hill Boro Council approved a request by PARA officials which will result in the Philipsburg 146.640- repeater being relocated to the Chester Hill Boro building. Being at nearly the identical elevation as the existing .64 site, this move is expected to have minimal impact on the repeater’s coverage area. For more details click the link above.

PARA Picnic Plans Announced (added 11-May-2009)
The 3nd Annual Philipsburg Area Amateur Radio Picnic has been scheduled for Saturday August 8, 2008 at 3 PM. This event is open the all amateur radio operators and their families. Membership in PARA or any other club is not required. We’ll plan to serve dinner by 4 PM. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and a table setting. Boyd Houck, W3CDR/SK (added 24-December-2008)

2008 Christmas Banquet and Ham of the Year (added 20-December-2008)
On Saturday December 20th the Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association held the annual Christmas Banquet. This year's location was the Moshannon Valley Superbowl. At the banquet it was announced that John Szwarc N3SPW was named the 2008 Ham of the Year. For more details click the link above.

APRS Digipeater Project (added 20-December-2008)
The Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association is in the process of building an APRS digipeater which will be installed at a tower site on Rockton Mountain. The location will provide APRS coverage throughout the Clearfield County and Jefferson County region and fill in several significant holes in existing coverage. Technician License Study Class Scheduled (added 15-November-2008)
The Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association has announced plans to hold a Technician Licens Study Class in Philipsburg starting on MArch 19, 2009. Anyone interested in obtaining their Technician Class license is welcome to attend. There is no cost for the course but students are expected to have on hand the study materials. Troop 46 Participates in the JOTA (added 18-October-2008)
Boy Scout Troop 46 participated in the Jamboree on the Air Saturday October 18th with the assistance of PARA. PARA members Rich KB3QKR and John N3SPW set up a HF station and a 2-meter station and helped the scouts make contacts on the air. For more details click the link above.

444.750 Repeater Antenna Installed (added 6-Sep-2008)
