PARA Applies for ARRL Affiliation (added 7-July-2008)
At the June PARA meeting it was decided that PARA would seek affiliation with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). The necessary affiliation papwork was recently submitted to ARRL and we are awaing a responce from ARRL staff. Click the above link for details.

146.640 Philipsburg Repeater News (added 19-June-2008)
On June 7, 2008 Ed K3EDD, the owner of the 146.640 repeater in Philipsburg, and PARA officials agreed on a plan which will transfer the Philipsburg 146.640 frequency coordination and any remaining usable equipment over to the Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association. Click the above link for details.

EchoLink Connection is Operational (added 12-June-2008)
The EchoLink connection for the 146.430 Philipsburg repeater is operational. Some audio level tweaking is still necessary and there remains a connectivity issue with some EchoLink stations, but it is usable. For instructions on how to use the connection click the link above.

444.750 Frequency Coordination Approved (added 12-June-2008)
The 444.750 frequency coordination has been approved by the Western Pennsylvania Repeater Council. This “initial coordination” allows for a six moth period in which to build the repeater. Click the above link for more information.

Pennsylvania Senate Bill 884 Tower Legislation (added 5-June-2008)
Working its way through the Pennsylvania Senate is a bill that seeks to further obligate municipalities within Pennsylvania to honor the PRB-1 FCC ruling. If enacted into law, any ordinance or regulation adopted by a Pennsylvania municipality will be required to reasonably accommodate amateur service communications. Steven Lazar Passes Technician License Test (added 17-Apr-2008)
The Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association is pleased to announce that Steven Lazar of Philipsburg successfully passed the written FCC amateur radio Technician Class examination on Wednesday evening. The examination session was the conclusion of a four week training class designed to prepare students for the FCC amateur radio examination. Click the link above for more information.

PARA Receives Vanity Club Call Sign (added 19-Mar-2008)

Technician Licensing Classes Planned in Philipsburg (added 26-Feb-2008)
PARA will be conducting entry level amateur radio classes for people interested in obtaining their Technician Class FCC amateur radio license. Classes will start on Wednesday March 19th and continue for the next 4 weeks. The 5th week students will be given the FCC Technician Class exam. The instructor will be Dave AA3EJ. 146.430 Repeater Repaired -- Back on the Air (updated 23-Feb-2008)

EchoLink Connection Planned for the 146.430 Repeater (added 16-Feb-2008)
PARA is currently in the process of gathering the necessary equipment for an EchoLink connection on the new W3PHB 2-meter band repeater. Most of the equipment is already on hand. At present, we lack an antenna for the link. For more information click the link above.

PARA Announces 70 cm Band Repeater Project (added 16-Feb-2008)
A new 70 cm band repeater project is currently under construction for the Philipsburg area. The repeater will operate on 444.400+ and have an RF output of 25 watts. Most of the equipment is already on hand, but we still lack the antenna and feedline. For more information click the link above.

146.430+ Repeater is On the Air (updated 16-Feb-2008)
On Saturday February 16th at approximately 15:50 hours PARA placed the new 146.430+ repeater into service from a temporary antenna. We are currently fine-tuning the machine, but initial coverage reports are encouraging. The PL board is currently turned off. If noise becomes an issue we will turn on the input PL. PARA Plans Road-Trip to Timonium Hamfest (added 20-Dec-2007)
PARA members are planning a road-trip to the Greater Baltimore Hamboree and Computer Fest on March 29 & 30, 2008. On Saturday December 15th 2007 PARA members and their spouses gathered at the Philipsburg Country Club for the Christmas Banquet. Repeater Map Available (added 3-Nov-2007)
A downloadable map of Central Pennsylvania amateur radio repeaters is now available. This map shows Clearfield and Centre Counties, as well as every adjoining county.
