The Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association is pleased to announce that Steven Lazar of Philipsburg successfully passed the written FCC amateur radio Technician Class examination on Wednesday evening. The examination session was the conclusion of a four week training class designed to prepare students for the FCC amateur radio examination. The course instructor was David Runk, amateur radio call sign AA3EJ of Chester Hill. All classes and the examination session were held at the Holt Memorial Library in Philipsburg. The Volunteer Examination team included Jim Warg N3ONE, Joe Howe KB3CBN, Filip Cerny AB3HK, and Dave Runk AA3EJ as the Coordinating Volunteer Examiner.
As soon as the results of the examination session are processed, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will issue an official call sign for Steve. He will be required to use his new call sign while on the amateur radio bands communicating with other amateur stations. The Technical Class license is the entry level license for the amateur radio service. The General Class is the next higher level and the Extra Class is the highest level of amateur radio license available. With each license class additional operating privdelages are earned.
