PARA Announces APRS Digipeater Project

Posted 20-December-2008

The Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association is in the process of building an APRS digipeater which will be installed at a tower site on Rockton Mountain. The location will provide APRS coverage throughout the Clearfield County and Jefferson County region and fill in several significant holes in existing coverage.

All the necessary equipment is on hand. A retired commercial 2-way radio will provide the transceiver portion of the digi. A Kantronics KPC-3 Plus will be used as the TNC. The tower site on Rockton Mountain is owned by Paul Fleming KE3DR and also is home to the 146.390+ repeater. The call sign will be W3PHB-1.

Currently PARA member Paul W3PRL is working on programming the TNC and preparing everything for installation at the tower site. As this project progresses more information will be posted here.
