ARRL Affiliation is Approved
PARA officials have received official word from ARRL HQ stating that our ARRL
club affiliation application has been approved. As of July 30, 2008 PARA is
officially an ARRL affiliated club. Notification was received in an e-mail sent from ARRL
staff to PARA Vice-President Filip AB3HK. The text of that e-mail follows:
Dear Filip:
It gives me great pleasure to advise you that the ARRL Executive Committee has
approved your club’s application for affiliation with the ARRL. Your club is
hereby declared a duly affiliated society with an affiliation date of July 30, 2008.
A charter has been generated and sent to you to honor this important event.
We hope you will coordinate a “Charter Party,” and invite your Division Director,
Section Manager (SM), or Affiliated Club Coordinator (ACC) for a special
presentation. Addresses of Directors and SMs are on pages 15 and 16 of QST.
We ask that you keep these officials and us posted on your club’s activities.
Please send copies of any club news to your SM, ACC, Director and us. Please
feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns; we are all vitally
interested in your progress.
Your club is now eligible for the benefits of ARRL affiliation; we hope you will
make full use of our services. One of those services is our online booklet
full of helpful information for clubs – the Active Club Online Primer at
http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/club/cpw/. Want to get your club more involved
in public service? Want to present programs that make meetings lively?
This online book permits quick access to hundreds of pages that can enhance
the club and help it gain new members.
Again, congratulations and welcome. We look forward to a long and fruitful
relationship with your club.
73,
Dawn Trigilio

At the June PARA meeting it was decided that PARA would seek affiliation with the
American Radio Relay League (ARRL). This affiliation offers several benefits to
PARA. These include commissions on ARRL memberships, the ability to purchase
ARRL sponsored liability and equipment insurance, discounts on library sets of
ARRL books, referrals of prospective radio amateurs to the club and more.
To become an affiliated club, clubs must meet a few requirements:
At least 51% of your voting membership must be full or associate ARRL members.
At least 51% of your voting membership must be licensed amateurs.
The club must have a club constitution.
The club's goals must not conflict in any way with the goals of the ARRL.
Filip AB3HK was placed in charge of this project and recently submitted the paperwork to ARRL headquarters. We expect to have a response within the next 8 to 12 weeks.
Check the www.philipsburg-ara.org web site for updates on this project.
