Get Your Amateur License
Technician License Class Starting on August 20, 2008

PARA conducts entry level amateur radio classes for people interested in obtaining their Technician Class FCC amateur radio license. Classes are on Wednesdays and continue for four weeks. The 5th week students are given the FCC Technician Class exam. The instructor will be Dave AA3EJ. There is no cost for the course, although you will need the study materials discussed below.

The Technician Class license is the entry level amateur radio license, with General Class and Extra Class being the next levels. The FCC no longer requires that amateur radio operators to know Morris Code (CW), although many of the amateur bands continue to hum with CW.

There will be 35 questions on the exam. The questions are selected from a pool of 385 available questions, chosen at random. To pass the test, you must correctly answer 26 of the 35 questions. This course will prepare you to pass this test.

All classes and the exam are conducted at the Holt Memorial Library, 9 West Pine Street in Philipsburg. The next Technician class will start on August 20, 2008 and will conclude with the September 17, 2008 testing session.

As permitted by FCC rules, there is a $14 fee to sit for the test. You are not required to have participated in the Technician Class to take the test. Test session reservations are recommended to assure enough printed tests are on hand.
