The 3nd Annual
Philipsburg Area Amateur Radio Picnic

Posted 25-May-2009

We are pleased to announce that the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Atlantic Division Director, Bill Edgar N3LLR, is planning to attend the Philipsburg Area Amateur Radio Picnic. Bill oversees the ARRL field organization for the Atlantic Division which includes our local Western Pennsylvania Section. This will be a great honor to have a league official visit a PARA function and look forward to hearing him speak in an informal setting like our picnic.

The 3nd Annual Philipsburg Area Amateur Radio Picnic has been scheduled for Saturday August 8, 2008 at 3 PM.

Talk-in on the 146.430 repeater.

We had planned to have this event at the Cold Stream Dam Park, but when PARA officials called to make the reservations we were asked for a $100 deposit. Apparently Philipsburg Borough feels this is necessary. We would have gotten the deposit back if on the following Monday the borough employees inspected the picnic shelter and found there were no damages. PARA was concerned about this because we have no control over what happens after we leave. This could make us responsible for any vandalism that might occur overnight. So we made other arrangements. The picnic will be held at the Chester Hill Boro Building grounds, corner of Route 53 and Ray Street in Chester Hill. There is a picnic pavilion on the grounds and it should be just fine for us. (and no deposit was required!)

This event is open the all amateur radio operators and their families. Membership in PARA or any other club is not required. We’ll plan to serve dinner by 4 PM. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and a table setting. Hot dogs, hamburgers and rolls will be provided.

RSPV's would be appreciated so we can be sure to bring enough hotdogs and hamburgers. Please contact John N3SPW or Dave K3MGC.
