VE Testing

PARA conducts quarterly VE test sessions for FCC Technician, General, or Extra Class Amateur Radio licenses. Dave AA3EJ is the Contact Volunteer Examiner (CVE) and we work through the W5YI - VEC. If you would like to become a licensed amateur radio operator, please contact Dave AA3EJ via e-mail at Click Here. Alternatively you could leave a telephone message at 814-342-0696. Be sure to leave a name, number and message and Dave will get back to you. If you need assistance studying for the exam, local ham radio operators are available as mentors. Let Dave know you want assistance and he will work with you to find an appropriate mentor.

All exams are conducted at the Holt Memorial Library, 9 West Pine Street in Philipsburg. Use the lower entrance for the meeting room (the one furthest away from Front Street). Exams start promptly at 7 PM. Parking is available on the street in front of the library, or in the municipal parking lot opposite the library. Reservations are recommended to assure enough printed tests are on hand for the session.

If you have a scanner, you can tune in the local amateur radio communications on the PARA (Philipsburg) repeater. The output frequency is 146.430 KHz and you'll usually hear some of the local "hams" talking most evenings.
