PARA conducts regular VE test sessions for FCC Technician, General, or Extra Class
Amateur Radio licenses. Joe KB3CBN is the ARRL Contact Volunteer Examiner (CVE) and we
work through the ARRL VEC.
If you would like to become a licensed amateur radio operator, please contact
Joe KB3CBN via e-mail at "kb3cbn (at) arrl.net". Alternatively you could leave a telephone message at 814-342-1513. Be sure to leave a name, number and message and Joe will get back to you. If you need assistance studying for the exam, local ham radio operators are available as mentors. Let Joe know you want assistance and he will work with you to find an appropriate mentor.
All exams are conducted at the Holt Memorial Library in the Community Meeting Room, 17 North Front Street in Philipsburg.
Exams start promptly at 7 PM. Be sure to bring with
you a photo copy of your current license (if you have one) and a photo ID. You will also need to have the $15 Examination Fee in cash. We are not prepared to accept credit cards or any other form of payments. Reservations are recommended to assure enough printed tests are on hand for the session.
If you have a scanner, you can tune in the local amateur radio communications on the PARA (Philipsburg) repeater. The output frequency is 146.430 KHz and you'll usually hear some of the local "hams" talking most evenings.
